Juan Cloy

Juan Cloy was recently selected by the Mary S. Nelums Foundation as an Invisible Giant. The “invisible giant” designation was created to give voice and recognition to young African-American men who are making a positive difference in their community. Their community work is consistent with social work values.

Juan Cloy was born in Michigan and reared in Indianapolis, Indiana until the age of 13 when he and his family moved to Jackson, Mississippi where he graduated from Provine High School.

Detective Cloy, a 16-year veteran of the Jackson Police Department, began his work within the community as a patrolman. For the past eight years, he has served the citizens of Jackson as a Detective/Agent, assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigations Safe Streets Task Force.

Detective Cloy’s law enforcement experience includes working as a Detective in Robbery/Homicide, Narcotics, Major Crimes Investigations, Violent Crimes, Background Investigations and the Neighborhood Enforcement Team (N.E.T.), a street-level Narcotics Task Force. He is currently the assistant team leader of Jackson Police Department’s S.W.A.T Team. 

Mr. Cloy has also had thorough training in the field of criminal justice and law enforcement. He is a certified State Law Enforcement Instructor, certified Oleoresin Capsicum (O.C.) Instructor certified Field Training Officer and Homeland Security Certified Executive Protection Agent. His background and training include FBI Street Survival School, FBI Information and Security Sharing, FBI Pinpoint Geo-special, United States Attorney Criminal Financial Investigation, DEA Telecommunications Exploitation Program, Homeland Security WMD Hands-on training, Homeland Security WMD Law Protective Measures, Methamphetamine Laboratory Safety, Community Policing, and Modern Criminal Investigations.

Mr. Cloy’s commendations include the Life-Saving Award, Officer of the Month and The Federal Bureau of Investigations recognition for Outstanding Performance. He is currently the President of the Police Officers Association. 

Detective Juan Cloy is a mentor, community activist, adoption advocate, and public speaker. He feels that his greatest purpose in life is to provide opportunities for children and families who have been overlooked within the community. He works tirelessly within social institutions to improve the conditions of families and youth who are at risk of potential crisis. 

He considers fatherhood as his greatest accomplishment. He and his wife are strong supporters of adopting older children living in foster care. Mr. and Mrs. Cloy have two biological children and six adopted children.

In December 2003, their family of four added a sibling group of two, which were a 14 and 10-year-old; in June of 2007, they added a three-year-old and four-year-old; and in December of 2010, their family expanded once more to include a 14 and 16-year-old. Mr. Cloy believes that giving children love, options, guidance, structure, and discipline are all they need to become productive, successful members of society, regardless of their past. 

Mr. Cloy is married to Ingrid Cloy and is the father of eight children: Rashad (21), Jaycora (17), Domonique (17), Christianna (16), Juan II (15), Terrell (14), John (9), Isabella (7).
